Part of the 2020 Mugshot Series in honour of our year of incarceration.

On 19th October 1956 assault charges were brought against Elvis Presley following a a gas station fight. Elvis pulled into the station for repairs and was besieged by fans. Hopper, the station manager, ordered Presley away and a brief altercation ensued. All three involved were booked for assault and battery and disorderly conduct. The charges against Presley were dismissed by the Memphis City Court. The nationwide press reports of Elvis 'slugging it out' with a couple of gas station attendants only enhanced his rebellious image among his fans.

There are a few 'mugshots' of Elvis floating around, this is in fact his Army mugshot taken in 1960 at the age of 25. He was drafted to the military in 1957 and served as a Sergeant. The Army offered to have him only play concerts for the troops but Presley chose to serve. Despite efforts from Sen. Clifford P. Case to save the iconic hairdo, it had to go, according to Time. So he sat down and his pompadour was shaved off.

"Well, hair today, gone tomorrow," Elvis said... legend.
