ABOUT ME

Growing up in the Brecon Beacons, I was raised in the Welsh language by parents who instilled a fierce love of our heritage and a flair for languages.

I was enamoured by Latin American culture and history in school, which set the trajectory for my career in Human Rights Law. I forged a niche specialising in Latin American cases, representing a range of clients from former DEA cartel informants to those fleeing the notorious gangs of El Salvador.

Art has always been an essential part of my life, evolving with me and reflecting my lived experiences. I began exhibiting my artwork from the age of 17 across local art galleries and eventually found my feet in figurative oil painting.

I never felt the need to choose between a career in Art or Human Rights. I find that the analytical and creative processes complement each other. I suppose at their core, they are both rooted in anthropology, the study of society and culture.

My early work was heavily influenced by the beautiful characters that I’ve come across on my travels. From the street art of Medellín, Colombia to the incredible faces of the locals in Old Havana, Cuba. My first solo exhibition was a series of portraits of local Cardiff traders, who were the heartbeat of my adopted home.

In 2020 I took the plunge of becoming self-employed, married the love of my life and we moved out of the city to a small village by Ogmore beach. In 2022, our beautiful daughter, Menna was born and turned our lives upside down.

Becoming a mother has undoubtedly influenced my artistic direction. My paintings are softer, more vibrant and fun because of her. At the same time, the challenges of motherhood ignited a fearlessness and determination to keep creating and to make each brushstroke count. I hope Menna grows to see me as more than her mother, and above all to know the joy of pursuing passion.
